Texas Creek Parking Lot - Sept 29th, 2018 - It’s Done!
It’s official - the parking lot is open to the public! Many thanks to all of those who contributed their time and efforts to making this project a reality.
August 11th, 2018
Texas Parking Lot is complete! Many thanks to all the donors, this has been a four year project. Originally budgeted at $150,000 by BC Parks, the project was completed for less than $40,000 with considerable in kind and community volunteer labour, cash, and equipment donations. Well done!
July 28th, 2018
The parking lot is just about complete now with only the signage and the wheel stops (that mark the parking spaces) to follow, with Christina Lake Sand and Gravel taking care of the installation. Thanks to Peter Bowen for all his efforts making this a reality!
June 10th, 2018
Work on the parking lot has resumed with Peter Bowen heading the operation and equipment supplied this year by Lime Creek Logging. Leveling, screening and trucking of the gravel has taken place and the plan is to continue working until the project is complete.
As we experienced last year, weather and equipment are unpredictable, so we all should keep our fingers crossed as the work continues. Thanks to Peter and Lime Creek for all their work on the project!
July 11th, 2017
Due to the fire risk, any work with heavy equipment, while not yet restricted, has too much risk attached so the parking lot construction is on hold likely until the fall. Peter Bowen was able to locate a Crusher and made arrangements for work to start July 17th, but after discussions with Grace McGregor and BC Parks the decision was made to postpone work until conditions are safe again.
June 24th, 2017
Unfortunately the donated crusher is still waiting for parts and the decision has been made to rent a crusher. Once that is delivered work will continue, updates to follow.
Boat Access members parking at Texas are asked to "doubleup" in the existing lots that are lined for truck and trailer combinations.
Thanks for all the donations and for your patience as we get this project finished.
June 5th, 2017
Construction is on hold at the moment as we wait for the donated crusher to be repaired (for a second time this spring). Cost savings of using this crusher are $10,000-15,000, which is why we are prepared to wait.
The docks at the boat launch were damaged in the storm at the end of May and are being repaired/replaced as needed by BC Parks at this time.
Updated April 4th, 2017
Construction is about to resume, and we are hopeful that it will be complete by the May long weekend. The addition of this parking area and the refit of the existing parking area will increase vehicle with trailer spots from 25 to 81 and vehicle only spots from 33 to 60. We are still asking for donations, so please help create a legacy for our community, scroll to the bottom for the link.
Update January 23rd, 2017
Work has started – Hooray! Attached an article which appeared in the January 19, 2017 edition of the Christina Lake News. (Click to follow the link) Work stopped on December 23, 2016, although the stump and brush pile has continued to emit smoke, even up until this past week. We will have a small amount of clean up and burning first thing in the spring.
We would like to thank all of you who have contributed financially to our common cause.
There are still many boat access owners who have not donated, so if any of you feel that you can nudge your friends or neighbours to assist financially, it would be appreciated.
Update July 29th, 2016: from BC Parks
MOTI (Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure) has generously agreed to provide all the surface material required to complete the parking area as well as trucking costs to the site.
BC Parks completed a site visit to the parking area this week with our engineer and geotechnical specialist. We conducted some testing of the material on site and have concluded that the material onsite should be suitable for re-use as sub-base after processing on site. This will require processing the material to remove the larger rocks, this will take a significant amount of machine time, but will be cheaper than locating and trucking off site material.
We have also modified the Parking lot design a bit. We have split the lot into two separate sides to utilize existing site grades. The redesign will also increase the capacity to 60.
BC Parks has initiated an Environmental assessment, and First Nation consultation on the project and have instructed the Archeologist to begin the archeological overview assessment. These will take up to four months to complete.
Projected start date: October 2016
Many thanks to Peter Bowen, Linda Larson MLA and Grace McGregor, Director Area "C" RDKB for their support on this project
July 1st, 2016: We are happy to announce that we have come to an agreement with BC Parks to move forward on expanding the parking facilities at Texas Creek. Peter Bowen has been actively recruiting local contractors to help us fulfill our obligations to build this parking facility on BC Parks property.
Budgeted by BC Parks at $150,000, this is an enormous undertaking for our group and our community. CLBAS has been advocating for this expansion for close to twenty years, and has actively been in negotiations with BC Parks for the past three years. The results will be improved safety and access for all users of the Texas Creek boat launch, making it safer for our neighbours and community as a whole.
We need your help to make this a reality, please donate today!
